Learning about the things you paint is a very enjoyable part of the creative process. These wonderful Palo Verde trees remind me of giant warrior Bonsai. The warm green bark comes from chlorophyll – only a third of their photosynthesis actually comes from the leaves in this harsh desert climate. Understanding something about the character influenced how I represented them.
